I would certainly recommend Alvaranga and his team for gum graft surgery.
Everyone should be very, very careful of going to this Dentist!! I was having scaling done, which he didn't do, but a wonderful dentist named Sue did. Anyway, there was a charge on my bill of $48 for "Oral Hygiene". I questioned the receptionist on this, as I was not going to pay for someone to tell me how to brush & floss my teeth. I am well aware of how to do this. She gave me several different answers that made no sense. I said I will pay for the procedure, but I'm not paying for oral hygiene instruction. She talked to Alvaranga out in the back office, came back and said that the charge would be $107 for that day, $59 for the scaling and $48 for the instruction. I told her I would check with my insurance company, if they say this is a legitimate charge then I will send her a check for the $48. She had to go back and talk to Alvaranga again. At this point he wanted to talk to me. So I was led back to his office. He came in slammed my chart down on the desk and said he understood that I had a question on my bill. So I went thru it again with him. WELL, then he starts saying that the procedure cost so and so much and I knew that ahead of time. They had sent me a cost of everything and nowhere was there anything about an additional $48 EVERYTIME I went there, which was a total of 3 times. I said I'm not questioning anything about the cost of the procedure, I'm only questioning the $48 charge. He tried to tell me again about the full cost and I kept saying I'm not questioning that. I said I'm questioning this charge only and I feel like you are double billing me. I still can't believe what he did next!! He stood up, slammed my chart on his desk and said "You are done here!!!! This is your last visit!!! and stormed out of his office. I said "wow, you are a real treat". I gave Sue a hug and said I guess I'm not staying. I poked my head around the corner and said to Alvaranga "am I leaving now"? He said "YES".!!! The other nurses and hygenists couldn't believe his actions or his attitude towards me. Needless to say, I gladly left. I could not believe how completely UNPROFFESSIONAL and RUDE he treated me. I called my insurance company when I returned home and they said this rarely happens, but it does and no they don't pay for it. I figure if this happened to me, it is happening to other people that DARE to question their bill. I can't say what kind of Dentist he is, as he never treated me, but as a person he certainly is of questionable character and morals. So if you go, just make sure you get an itemized bill and read it very carefully. Robert Alaranga has a very shady way of doing business.
Friendly and knowledge staff. Every item on my bill was explained to me thoroughly and no extra charges were ever applied. Dr. Alvarenga is an excellent periodontist, I highly recommend him for periodontal needs.
We had an excellent experience with Dr. Alvaranga and his office. My son had gum surgery and while it wasn't fun, Dr. Alvaranga and his staff did a great job, very thorough, and always available to answer questions. I would recommend him whole-heartedly.
I had to have gum grafts (using my own tissue) on both lower sides. Having read and heard reports about it, I was dreading the procedure. The whole process was a lot better then I expected. Dr Alvarange and his team (Brenda) were very good. They explained everything and carried out the graft quickly and relatively painlessly. The recovery is not fun, but it went smoothly and both the donor site and the graft site healed well, with good coverage.
